Dell is a global leader in using technology to make a positive social and environmental impact. Corporate social responsibility and sustainability are business imperatives for the company, and today’s conscious customers are closely monitoring its progress. The company produces an annual corporate social responsibility report, as well as regular blog posts, to update employees, customers and industry stakeholders on everything from its carbon emission reductions to its innovations in children’s cancer care. This is an enormous endeavor that requires transforming complex, scientific information from across a 140,000-employee enterprise into one compelling narrative.
Plume Solution:
Dell has hired Plume to write eight subsequent corporate social responsibility reports (2012-2019), the last two of which have been entirely digital. I also wrote the 2020 Legacy of Good Plan, which is a public roadmap of Dell’s long-term goals. Additionally, the company engages me to write messaging, blog posts and website content.
Writing large, high-profile reports requires me to do the following on a very tight timeline:
interview more than 50 Dell employees, customers and partners from around the world
write up to 21 stories, each of which must also function as its own whitepaper
write infographics and social media content
incorporate feedback from nearly 100 subject matter experts, executives and stakeholders
tie all initiatives into larger global trends and priorities such as the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals
